RAF reserve landing airfields status 2011

I was reading the RAF still have a number of reserve airfields dotted around the Uk, and would like to know how many there are, and

1 Do they have permanent fire cover
2 If so by who
3 do all the reserve airfields have the same appliance's

What exactly do you mean by "reserve landing airfields"? Im wondering if youve got confused with Relief Landing Grounds?

Are you perhaps thinking of places such as Thorney Island or Waterbeach - no longer under RAF control as now an Army bases - but the runways - although officially closed, could possibly be used in an emegency ?

Maybe i mean relief landing fields! like say RAF Sleap RAf weston on the green, RAF Syerston

RAF Leconfield do they have fire cover?

Well none of those are relief landing grounds!!! Sleap ceased to be an RAF airfield in the early sixties, but Shawburys helicopters do use it. Boulmer definetely has fire cover so Im guessing that Leconfield does as well. Weston on the Green does have fire cover or it did when I was there, but not military or DFS! It had a civvy fire truck which was manned either by RAF firemen from Brize who got cash in hand or by members of the para club. I will leave Syerston to someone who knows about Syerston.

RAF Shawbury's RLG's are Ternhill and Chetwynd. Ternhill has fire cover, as the heli's perform engine off app's, for day and night flying. Chetwynd is controlled from Ternhill, for day flying and Shawbury for night flying, it does not have fire cover at all apart fron the local civil brigade via 999 if anything happens.

Is Mona still a reserve field for Valley? Merryfield is a reserve for Yeovilton (both FAA Airfields though) Not sure of others of the top of my head but I guess there must be more.

Topcliffe and Church Fenton are both relief landing grounds for Linton on Ouse.
Leconfield is only used by SAR helicopters, the runway isn't used.

Boulmer doesn't have any runways Canberra.
