snow markers are still used as i have to place out and take in during the winter. the ones we have are orange with a blue reflective sleeve. my opinion its a waste of time as when we have heavy snow fall they dont clear as they have no machinary to do it. joys of raf linton on ouse.

and if any one wants a full size marker board or number i have a few i can get hold of

Are you seriously saying that Linton removes it snow markers (aka snow flags) in the summer? When the relective markers (aka ARMS) were brought in to service in 93 they were to be in situ all year round!

i sure am. every spring i get a order to go clear all the markers from all the active taxi ways and asp.and store. im due to place agin in next few weeks. strange i know

and some one had a great idea and a great waste of money to use somr of the markers to create barriers between hangar 1 and 2. both sides of th fire section. and every access point on to the taxi ways and asp. pure genius

As posted earlier, St Mawgan did exactly the same thing. Out in October picked up in May or there abouts. They would have got in the way of the grass cutting process for one thing, well some would have anyway.

As a civil airport, we don't use them ...
Memories........... I've forgotten what they are !!

they do cause problems tho as ther placed on the grass and as i do the maintenance on the airfield they do get in the way and look unsightly at times

Agree with EG about Mawgan's snow flags, I used to enjoy the walk and excercise which many of the assistants didn't!
At St Athan we keep them out all year, I can't say it hinders grass cutting but they sometimes spoil an otherwise good aircraft photo!

you would believe how much of a pain they are for grass cutting operations. take the 03 theshold and holding area at linton main runway. from the asp to there, theres short grass all the way down and must be at least 30 markers in that area

That really shouldn't be the case, a grass area that big should be MoD long grass policy to act as a bird deterant especially near a threshold.
Short grass should only be adopted near ILS, PAR, ESA, and BFI sites.
How come there are some many snow flags in one area?
