"Huffman Prairie, also known as Huffman Prairie Flying Field or Huffman Field is part of Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. The 84 acre patch of rough pasture outside Dayton, Ohio is where the Wright brothers undertook the difficult and sometimes dangerous task of creating a dependable, fully controllable airplane and training themselves to be pilots.

After they began making use of Huffman Prairie in 1904, the Wright brothers made hundreds of flights here after developing the 1905 Wright Flyer III (the plane they considered to be the first practical airplane), testing the aircraft built by the Wright Company. At the Wright Flying School, also located here, they trained more than a hundred pilots, including the flyers for the Wright Exhibition Team and the first military flyers, including Henry 'Hap' H. Arnold (commander of the USAAF during World War II) and Thomas DeWitt Milling. In the first photo in my first post, the tower is their launching catapult. The second photo show Wilbur and Orville with the Wright B Flyer in front of the hangar circa 1905.

I can neither confirm nor deny that (I learned this method from my government).

However, this effect (real world landscapes made to look like models) can be achieved using tilt-shift lens technology in certain cameras. And of course, you can probably do it in Photoshop.

Thought I'd bump this thread up with an idea. Is it worth merging this with the 'What Aerodrome Quiz' and then change the rule so we include overseas airfields as well?
