Absolutely, but I checked to make sure that I could find them.

I created a Flickr account but have never uploaded to it but I think with it changing owners faster than my insurance policies I doubt it will be a safe option in the future. So if we exclude Flickr and Photobucket, what is left that will be future proof?

Nothing, is probably the real answer!

I got lost with Google as I seem to have three apps from them that show the same photos and as already mentioned Panoramio seems to have an uncertain future. My greatest fear is that photo sharing will adopt the term "cloud based", still at least then I will know for certain it will be short term :)

P.S. My daughter mentioned Pinterest but I couldn't make out what purpose it served and whether you can link to it - I suspect it is another Facebook type thing.

Panoramio is closing down which is a shame but Google seem to be at closing what works.

I thought there was a huge backlash at Google over this as its replacement was awful. A lot of the links to photos for my book are now dead links and it seems they last around 3-5 years at most, judging by the number of links I deleted over the last 12 months. The internet is too fickle to be a serious storage method. The new medium is hard copy :)

I had an email from them, it will stay online for another year but users won't be able to upload new stuff, after that panoramio is gone.

I have used Photobucket pretty much since I started putting photos on the various forums. I have never had any issues with it, its a great service. I pay £2.19 I think it is a month for the premium service, unlimited uploads, no ads, no need to sign in every 90 days etc. One of the better hosting sites around.

I have never understood flickr, not easy to use in my opinion

Cheers

I have to agree with Rich I pay for the service as well & have never had a problem with it, although I didn't like the improved format.

As far as the forum goes it's much more preferable to have the photos uploaded directly.

When the hosting sites close, personal accounts close or people re-organise their albums it wrecks the threads.

If only the hosting sites had thought ahead and given all photos a static file location and made the album type of tag reference that could be changed at will with no impact on the actual location. This would make it easy to put the same photo in multiple albums, which is what I wanted to do when I originally started to store online.
