"Come on guys, don't suffer in silence, chirp up and Chris and I will see what we can do to help.
This forum is new and there will be a lot of things that need getting used to, but there are some things that we can affect changes and improvements to but unless we get feedback it won't happen."

Is there anything you can do stop the green banner coming down all the time as I think it hides too much of the thread and I find it very obtrusive . By banner I mean the the index at the top of the page ; About - Help Out-through to-Contact-Log Out .
Well you did ask !

I have the tool bars when I compose a reply or start a new new thread but the banner appears as soon as I start to scroll down the page and it covers up the 'Index-through to-Search tabs and annoys me to hell !

I find it very annoying - it keeps drifting down as I scroll through a page and invariably obscures the first few lines of a post. Reading the site on a laptop it takes up valuable screen space and it needs disabling. Having the navigation/menu bar locked to the top of the page with the floating "top" shortcut you also have in place, allows quick access to the nav items, if such a time saver is required.

Why have both?

But from experience usually a keyboard shortcut (such as Fn+left arrow) takes me to the top of any page I am viewing.

Your web designer coded it in - they can code it out.

EDIT:
I note from logging on using my iPhone that the same intrusive menu bar is doing the exact same on my phone screen. Not exactly "mobile friendly" ...

I have had a quick look around the net and have managed to disable this floating menubar by disabling Javascript on ARG. It has locked the menubar in place. It may affect some functionality of the forum but that may be a small price to pay for the sake of not having this pointless intrusion into the page I am viewing. I'm sure you would not like someone to continually obscure the first paragraph of every page of a book you might be reading?

Also, please review the use of this floating menubar on mobile devices.

UPDATE (for those interested).

The basic functions of the forum seem to be fine with Javascript disabled.
If this floating menubar annoys you then disabling Javascript in the browser preferences seems to lock it to the header. To prevent the disabling of Javascript affecting other sites you may visit, open a second different brand browser to your normal one and use that to access the ARG forum. :woohoo:

Covering the bulletin board tabs with a menu bar for the website as a whole seems entirely illogical to me....so make that three users out of the perhaps 200 that are active. Quoting 4800+ users is disingenuous.

The website wastes a large amount of real estate at various times and in several places.
It's the only website I've ever come across that uses almost half it's real estate for a footer. Even the header (area with the naff cloud background image) is taking a quarter of the screen as I type this.

Quelle surprise...

Your "designers" DS Print and Design seem to like the floating menubar so much they have used it on their own webpage.
They also like HUGE footers too.

Reasoned sensible arguments only please. I have noted your opinion please give others a chance.

I know you are frustrated but you are not the only one with a view.

I notice it doesn't obscure the adverts when using my phone!

Hmm - I don't seem to get these problems, however I have Javascript and Flash disabled by default (as they're open to serious abuse by all the nasty people out there).

We ought to stop using FlashEarth too for the same reason (in addition it doesn't do Google which I dislike, but it does handle Bing which I dislike even more).

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite
