I disabled both when Win 10 was loaded but I found Old-Maps.co.uk didn't work and since I use it almost every other day and pay for it I thought I should turn both back on. Flash is so widely used it seems most peculiar that the muppets at Adobe don't do something about it! I also found out that something called Silverlight is also required. There seems to be more bolt-ons required to make this OS work! I don't know of a script blocker for Chrome though.
On my PC the banner is unobtrusive an I don't get the bottom banner. What I did find odd was that I get no ads when I log in on my PC but on my phone it is a screen full, well almost, even when logged in.
On the whole I'm getting used to it now.

Spot on - how can a company which produce such powerful software such as Photoshop and InDesign fail to solve the problems with a simple add-on such as Flash time and time again.
The gurus tell you repeatedly not to use it because of its security issues, but a very large number of web sites insist on its use to function. I get tired of the number of times a day I have to click on 'Allow Flash' but with many sites it's grossly overused/. E.g. with ZDnet , the page loads in a few seconds, but I can't read the user's comments until I click 'Allow Flash' The page then goes into hyperspace for about a minute loading numerous junk ads - none of which I want.
I first came across Silverlight a few years ago, being forced to install it for something I felt was of interest. It added loads of junk onto my 'C' partition and still didn't work properly. . Supposedly Microsoft's answer to Flash I ditched it - forever
Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite
Apologies Dietmar but I was curious to know the reason why the forum behaves differently in Firefox and Edge as neither of these have the banner issue nor could I get rid of the, now ridiculous, cookie message. It seems that Flash and/or Java is required as both are disabled on the aforementioned browsers. I also wasn't sure if this Silverlight thing played a part in it, which I now know it doesn't.

Thanks for listening to, and acting on, the feedback on this issue.
I appreciate, from experience, that upgrades and re-designs of forums/websites will always have the "Marmite factor" involved - sometimes it's a small detail that causes the most 'controversy'.
