Hi Ian, Many thanks for the list of crash-site plaques. Regards the memorial in the church at Glascombe/Glascwm near Builth Wells, that is on here under, 'Luftwaffe cross in Welsh church.' I regularly correspond with a chap from Builth Wells who sent me some photographs of a memorial to a B-17 that crashed at Llanyre. This happened on 16-9-1943 the aircraft 's name was Sondra Kay of the 388th BG based at Knettishall, Suffolk. The plaque was dedicated on 16-9-2003, later another plaque was dedicated at the actual crash area. Are you aware of this site? The chap I know from Builth Wells had a brother who was killed while returning from a raid on Lutzendorf. He was the first to bail-out after their Lancaster from 576 Sqn was badly damaged by flak, the rest went down with the plane but survived. Sadly this young man was found dead with head injuries. I was recently sent a copy of the Beaufighter pilot's combat report along with a newspaper copy from 1992 concerning the above JU88.

The B 17, 42/5906 in question Sondra Kay namned after the baby daughter of staff sergeant Joshua Lewis,was seen off the English coast at 2037hrs,but later flew into Rhiw Gwraidd at upper Cilgee,Doldowlod near Rhayader,in bad weather and short of fuel,
so sad about the mans brother,you just never knew what was going to happen next in war

Thanks for that Ian, Another crash site he also told me of is that of another Wellington. This one crashed near Llangamarch, though he has no other information about it. No-doubt you also know of this one anyway. Regards Paul.

The only imformation i can give you on this one,if this is the one is,

On the 08/04/42 Wellington R1597 23 OTU was struck by lightning and crashed nr Llangammarch Wells,with the loss of the whole crew, hope this is of use
there are plenty of crashes from north Wales to the south ,Brecon is the furthest south i go though,so if you want any info on any please give me a shout

Thanks again Ian, This weekend I'm writing to the chap in Builth Wells so will ask if he can gather any more information about this Wellington. A couple of years ago we went to Tenby for a holiday, I knew of a plaque at St Davids to the crew of a B-26 that crashed there so I got some photographs of it. You can see these on the Thread/Starter memorial section under, 'More Memorials No 2'. Also within the Oxfordshire memorials section under, 'Wellington Bomber Crash, Oxon. is a brief account of mine concerning the brother of the pilot of this aircraft. About four years ago a new Doctor moved into the Builth Wells area, a German Doctor, he soon settled in and has shown a keen interest in the WW2 crash sites around the area....especially the Luftwaffe sites.

Mission,to bomb RAF Sealand,succeeded in this but was attacked by 3 Spitfires from Hawarden and downed near Curzon park golf club Chester,crew survived ,interned in a prison camp Canada

Dornier DO 17Z-3,WNr 2682,7T+LL,3 Staffel NO 606 Kusenflieger Gruppe crashed 16/10/40

Mission to bomb Liverpool and photograph targets,they were hit from ground defences and damaged,on flying low up the Denbighshire,they hit the ground and exploded near Hafod Wen farm at Nantglyn,first buried at Hawarden the reinterred at Cannock chase

Heinkel HE 111H-2,WNr 2432 6N+FL 3 Staffel KGr 100,crashed 08/04/41

Mission to bomb Liverpool docks,they were attacked by a night fighter and set on fire
the order was given to bail out two of the crew bailed successfully but the other two fell into the river Dee and drowned,the aircraft fell at Egerton Hall farm Nr Melpas

Heinkel HE 111P-4 WNr 2847,gI+LL 3 Staffel KG55 (greif) crashed 08/04/41
mission o bomb Liverpool docks,they were attacked by a Defiant nightfighter,3 of the crew were killed outright the other 2 bailed out landing on the banks of the river Dee the aircraft crashed on the banks of the Dee near Baglit

Heinkel HE 111P-4 WNr 2908 GI+HP, 6 Staffel KG55 (greif),crashed 08/04/41

Mission also to bomb Liverpool docks,didnt make the target ,and was downed by another Defiant from 256sqn and crashed at Llwyn Knottia farm near Wrexham,with no survivers

Heinkel HE 111P-2,WNr 1419 IG+CR, 7 Staffel KG27 CRASHED 29/04/41

Mission to bomb Liverpools ports and shipping,but was forced offcource by strong winds ,it was attacked by a 604sqn Beaufighter and set on fire ,the order to bail out was given ,4 made it out ,flight engineer was left inside ,the aircraft crashed in a field at Ewloe place , Buckley

Junkers JU 88A-5 WNr 7204 ,4D+IA HQ Staffel of KG30 crashed 01/11/41

Mission to attack Liverpool ,but was hit by A/A fire set on fire and crashed at Brockside farm near Pulford close to the Welsh border,crew off 4 were all killed

Junkers JU 88 of 3(F) Aufkl,Gr 123 crash landed 07/09/40

Mission to bomb Liverpool and Crewe,they were attacked by 4 spitfires and chased into north Wales,eventually forced down on the slopes of Drum Ddu ,all the crew survived ,

There is no mention of plaques or memorials though ,hope the German doctor you mention finds this of use to his search for Luftwaffe losses

Along with his wife they like to go rambling far and wide visiting some of the crash sites around their area. No-doubt he'll give a copy to the,' Herr Dockter' as he knows him quite well. One or two of the details on your list are incorrect, the losses you recorded as 8/4/41 were on the 7th / 8th May 1941, also the shoot down near Wrexham which is attributed to 256 Sqn by Edward Doylerush is recorded in the 96 Sqn ORB as on of their 'victories'.
