A new home has been found
firemuseum.uk/new-home-found/

Following several interviews broadcast on BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Radio Lincolnshire the Museum received a generous offer from Richard Walsh of Thurlby Motors to use their empty car showroom located in the village of Thurlby, just outside Alford, Lincolnshire as a temporary home for the collection.

Museum Trustees met with Richard and his business partner Gail Smith to discuss options and an initial six-month lease has been agreed. This is an extraordinarily generous offer and opportunity for the museum to survive and ultimately flourish in a fantastic facility deep in the heart of Lincolnshire Wolds, a very popular tourist destination.

There is a great deal of work to do in order to relocate the Museum, but it is hoped that we will reopen by Easter 2021.

There is a mammoth task ahead for the Trustees as they work to secure funding in order to rent or buy the site from Thurlby Motors, but this could be the first step in finding a permanent home for the collection. More details and photographs will appear on a regular basis, but we urge you all to get behind this project and help us to realise our dream.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Richard and Gail for their support and we look forward to working with them in the coming months as we strive once more to establish a first-class Firefighting Museum, educational facility and community hub.

So just to the east of Swinderby

In looking for the location of the former showrooms of Thurlby Motors, GE took me to Thurlby (just south of Bourne) and I took a virtual tour before realising there is another village with the same name near Alford. All was not lost, because I discovered this extant Handcraft Hut:

I don't know how to do the Google Maps Street VIew link thingie but you can look at it in SV out of GE.

Re my last post I did, of course, mean a Curved Asbestos Hut and NOT a Handcraft Hut. The EDIT option cuts off early these days!

From a brief visit yesterday...

You may have already heard that the former garage and showroom at Thurlby (Alford) has been sold.

This is not new news to those who have been following the story, but the Museum has to vacate now by 21st April.
Not all the vehicles made it to Thurlby before the whole move fell apart and most of the smaller artifacts were never unpacked.

They have not been able to find a replacement home and the museums exhibits will be distributed and stored for now

And now appealing for help....

Can You Help Or Do You Know Someone That Can????????

Once again the Museum is faced with the massive task of moving its collection and we are in desperate need of some help!
We are looking for companies or private owners with low-loaders, beaver tails and curtain-sider Lorries that can help us move some vehicles and memorabilia from Alford to a storage site in Lincolnshire, a distance of approximately 60 miles. Most of the memorabilia is on pallets or in stillage’s and we have a forklift at Alford to assist with loading. We also hope to have use of a forklift at the other end as well, but if you’ve got one we could borrow for a couple of weeks that would help us a great deal.

We are up against a very tight deadline, 21st April! So if you think you can help in any way, please get in touch ASAP.

We will, of course, give you all the publicity that we can via our web site and social media.

We’ve had some fantastic help in the past, and met some great people along the way. Let’s see if we can do it again and help this registered charity live to fight another day.

Please contact the museum on 01522730198, 07912658402 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further details.

Please also feel free to share away and spread this plea as far as we can!
