Just had a reply back refusing to do an estimate request. The reason was that the documents I reqested couldn't be identified without a search so I could either turn up in person or hire a researcher!

How difficult is it to find two rolled plans in a file of two rolled plans? Obviously very.
I now see why some of you are upset with the new regime.
I had copies made of the related files two months ago without a problem. I only held back because it cost about £25 for two large tif files!
I replied to them suggesting a few improvements. He He.

Regarding post 52, I had an apology from TNA explaining there had been a few issues with converting to the new system. I now have the requested copies.
Unrelated to this I have recently downloaded a lot of the free documents mainly in CAB 66/xxxx. There is a lot of interesting stuff there including
Heathrow maps from 1943
Air firing ranges for Bomber Command overland
Thornton and Heysham fuel depots
Extensions to Scampton
Before you get too exited these are generally two or three pages of text use for briefings or requests for approval not full files, Heathrow is the only one with drawings - so far. Still, I have found out a few things that I didn't know.

No mix and match. I went to the TNA last Sat with Captain Carnaby and it was not as bad I thought it would be, most files reaching the reading room between 20 and 30 minutes. However, one for the map room took nearly an hour and I was tearing my hair out!
I had not been there for quite a while (which is unusual) and the most noticeable thing was the change in staff. One only recognisable face, everyone else was new, that includes security. Why is this I wonder?
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
Would I be able to order smaller documents to the large document room or can't you mix and match?
I suspect not.
Last week ColinBa asked me to look at some documents he was interested in. They were all unavailable. He had contacted them earlier re a quote and I suspect they are then removed from the shelves for an unknown period.

Had to chuckle though, as I had with me a government buff-coloured note book, from my wind tunnel days, complete with some wind tunnel notes in it which i was using for note taking while at TNA. As i handed it over to security for them to search through to get into the reading room, the guard nearly had kittens WHAT IS THIS THEN, thinking I was smuggling official docs into the place. Had similar problem on the way out. Cant blame them though as smuggling fake docs in as well as stealling docs has been quite a problem in the past.

Damn - I've just perfected my fake one page memo which states that in honour of all the Temporary Brick huts built by Messrs Maycrete and Son, they will in future be referred to as Maycrete Huts.
Hadn't decided which AMWD document to slip it in.

Apparently the departure machine that you swipe when you leave hasn't been working for a few days. Although I suspect it is only to release seats for later arrivals. Only recently found out you can't use the toilets until after 08:30. I have been merrily waling through to them until the person in front of me got stopped last week! Something to do with passing water on the way in
