I subscribe to and use Fold3 constantly, but then again, I'm American and do research for the 8th Air Force Historical Society.

Many thanks for the feedback, is it useful for airfield info, ie if one wanted to find more info for research into a couple stations?

I do have a subscription & just like browsing the images.

Another good place is the Air Force Historical Research Agency. The website is free, but you have to pay for your results. Good place to start to see if they have anything up your alley, then you can judge whether or not it's worth the cost to you. CDs are $30 + shipping. I got the entire mission records of the 379th Bomb Group including log entries, flimsies, maps, formations, etc on 3 CDs - over 1.5 gigs of information (which is scanned paperwork).

Yes, I have had a subscription to Fold3 and its predecessor for several years. It has a very large archive of US history subjects but my interest has been (of course) USAAF in England. There is an easy to navigate menu for the FREE USAAF photographs digitised and downloadable, many have been featured on AiX but reminding oneself that USAAF stands for US ARMY AIR FORCE leads to looking at the Army in Europe documents that are predominantly text with embedded maps, sketches and photographs. Now the search becomes more difficult because the records are titled under monographs and reports of individual Commands and Sections so one needs to know the basic organisation of the US Army WW2 to guide you through the maze.

For example Ordnance and Transportation were hand in had so snippets and even wedges of ordnance activities might be found in a Transportations document and vice versa.

I keep my progress page open as a Tab and go to it now and then and click through texts - quite uninteresting to me - searching for bits that add to my line of research.

I am currently trying to use Fold3 but it keeps asking me to subscribe, I have never had to do this before, is anyone else having issues with it? Can't even use the search function. It now gives a 7 day free trial, I don't really want to start paying for something I use occasionally.
