Notice of this new Air Britain CD has just been published on their AB-IX forum and is their first 'book' to be published purely in a CD format . More details here ;

It looks to be an updated version of their excellent and long out of print book 'The Squadrons of the Royal Air Force & Commonwealth 1918-1988 . The price to Air Britain members is £14-95 and £19-95 to non members .

Looks great but I'd rather a hard copy book than a cd. Or am I just old fashioned??!!

Depends! I would sooner have their 'RAF Flying Training and Support Units' on CD since searching the book text is very difficult and time consuming. I've lost count of the number of times I've been directed (via the index) to 'page XXX' and then spent several minutes trying to find the one part line from a mass of data. I've often failed too.

Agree with Ref, A cd is very lame. We need to buy a copy for the archive. Richard can you do this?

And I also agree that a book - along with the obligatory cuppa - is a much more enjoyable way of absorbing information. And as for Kindles; they can be shoved where the squirrel..... - !

If the CD is searchable then that, as Carnaby says, is a huge benefit. Sadly a lot of the CDs I have are not searchable, being scans of originals (e.g. MLRS Books). I would love to have a hardcopy but the price would mean saving up only to find it is no longer in print when you have the money and then costs £300 on eBay! That happens too often. I tend to print a lot of stuff out that I am working on as it is a darn sight easier than going cross eyed at a screen. Plus you can highlight them easily.
The Kindle reference is valid for this type of book and totally agree that it is useless for anything with pictures due to the scalability of the text. It's excellent for novels though and I wouldn't go back to paperbacks.
