I'm guessing that as they are part of the Freeman Collection they were copies he acquired to illustrate his 8/9AF books.

(The Alconbury and Deenethorpe aerials have been especially useful today. :))

I can't understand why, as a long time viewer of the IWM website, I have missed the USAAF Museum sub-site. Better late than never!

Right! Just realised too that although my e-mail link for IWM 'news' is active I must have deleted some after reading only the headline....

Glad you're finding the link useful; I assumed that you'd all have stumbled across it already so glad I posted it now!

I was particularly pleased with the coverage of Martlesham Heath (my local airfield) which helped to clarify the slightly confusing layout of the airfield during the time it was occupied by the 356FG.

No post war coverage of Raydon included yet, only images circa 1943 although Roger Freeman used a 1946 image in Airfields Of The Eighth so maybe it will follow...

Just searched on "English Heritage" and now get 1099! Going through airfield by airfield reveals more than I saw using the original search criteria so its worth checking by airfield name.

1099 results using the "everything" search, still the same 788 photos using the "media" search.

I didn't notice it could be filtered by selecting the relevant tab. You can't use a specific phrase in quotes as it returns zero records (mostly) and without them it returns all records with any of the words in. Still it is good fun ploughing through them and I must have spent over 12 hours looking, on and off.
