I saw this photograph at the USAF Museum's "Big Week" display. Can anyone identify where it was taken? The caption said it was a Chow Line. Look at that barbed wire around the patch of grass. I guess they =really= wanted people to keep off the grass!

Nothing springs to mind but I notice the housing is quite near and also the air raid shelter. If the housing is military that might narrow it down a bit but I don't recognise it as such.

Wasn't there a brand new housing estate in the North-West that was turned over to the US Army for accommodation during WWII? I'd presume standard pattern mess halls would have been built there.

This book tells the story of the US Replacement Depot at Pheasey Farms Estate in Great Barr, Birmingham during World War II. Part of the half-built housing estate was requisitioned by the British forces at the outbreak of the war and in 1942 the first group of American solders moved in.

Those houses are still standing, they are on Rowney avenue which comes out between the nearest two houses and Pinkney close which leads to the house that is at a different angle. Hope that helps.
