Going back to the original thread posting.

I have identified three similar sites at Riccall, Yorks. They are perimeter defence structures constructed of circular concrete piping or brick raised above ground surface with a central gun mounting. They have adjacent square brick-lined access hatches.

They don't seem to correspond with Tett of Alan-Williams turret bases but would not have an access hatch if it was an open gun pit?

Any thoughts?

These gun pits appear to have had motley mounts in them which were entered from below. I suspect with the weapons and mount in place it would have been a tight squeeze to get into the pit from above and then contort yourself into the mount. The below ground access hatch would have made it a bit easier and also provided a place for the loader to shelter.
