Nassinton - unidentified structure

Nassinton - unidentified structure was created by Alex Brown
While out walking I found this structure in the middle of a field:
maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&q=n...44,0.001023&t=h&z=20
in a field just next to the village of Nassington in Northamptonshire.

It's quite a large, thick reinforced concrete structure with 3 bays that it looked like you could fit a vehicle in, each open both ends.
I wasn't allowed to get very close and didn't have a camera.
:(
There were a couple of long, shaped lumps of concrete lying nearby.

Any ideas? Only thing on the Defence of Britain database in Nassington is a Home Guard store near the pub.

Yes, I'm back(ish).

Not sure if the pin is in the right place! I am guessing you were looking at the foundation just off the fotheringhay road opposite the cricket club towards the river?

looked again on a real PC, yes the link works! Damn technology, last time I trust my idiot pod

I had wondered about that a few years back and thought pumping station, but that was probably after a few jars in tthe Black Horse!

It definitely doesn't seem like anything like a pumping station or anything agricultural either, it's so solidly constructed... I will have to make a return trip and get some pics.

Just thinking, the alternative to military is industrial/mining, which was extensive in this area at one time.
That said, it doesn't much resemble any of the other ironstone mining remains that I have visited in Northamptonshire.

Had a chance to look at my grubby 1:25000 OS sheet, the feature in question appears to be in direct line with the present day runway at Sibson, so I suppose the obvious question is has the runway alignment changed? Given the airfield has a grass landing area is it relevant?

I had missed how close it is to Sibson... would have to say that it's unlikely that the two are not connected...

For what it's worth it doesn't look like any of the defence structures I'm familiar with.

Wasn't the WW2 flying field at Sibson further south than the current one?

Yes,
The southern edge of the present field is the northern edge of the wartime airfield.

All the best,
