Visit from Top Brass-would anyone recognise the airfield?

Hi, I have been looking through my Great Uncle's photos from his time with the Air Ministry BD organization, and came across 2 pics of a visit to an airfield, apparantly by Sir Arthur Harris and his Officers. I wondered if anyone might have any information on what might be going on or where it might be? Any hints would be most gratefully received!

First of all the VIP isnt Harris its the Duchess of Gloucester, Harris is stood behind her. Also it looks like it was taken round about 40-41 when Harris was AOC 5 group, he would be accompanying her as AOC. And the band and quite a few people are carrying their gas masks, the requirement to carry these was dropped in 1943ish.

Having said all that I would take a swag at Waddington.

I hadn't noticed any of the details in the photos.Great uncle was a demon photographer and took hundreds of photos of his bomb disposal work as well as other AM projects he was involved in so I will post some of them in the relevent threads for interest.

Having had time to digest the info and think about the 1941 date for the photos, I remember my Great Aunt telling me that they rented rooms near Nottingham in the earlier years of the war, so I wonder if it could be Hucknall? According to uncle's map, a bomb disposal "A" squad was based there (No13) which could explain his presence, and having done some Googling, I see that there are some similar hangars, as well as square roofed houses like those in the background. I wonder if that would be feasible?
My present day auntie in Nottingham will soon be wondering why she is receiving a "friendly visit" from her errant nephew!

The Butcher was the AOC 5 Group from Sept 11 1939 to Nov 22, 1940 he was promoted to AVM on the latter date so the pic pre-dates Nov 22 1940.

Why was he a Butcher? He was just carrying out the orders of the war cabinet. What people must realise about the Bomber command losses is that most bombers had a crew of 7, so lose one and youve lost the equivalent of an infantry section. Secondly most of those losses were Lancasters. The Lancaster was a fine aircraft, but it was difficult to escape from, there wasnt in fact an escape hatch. If Harris had used the Mosquito in a strategic role losses would have been a lot less.

Butcher or Butch was the affectionate name given to him by his crews, possibly tongue in cheek.
To return to the main thread. It appears that the photographs were taken between the spring of 1940 when the Duchess of Gloucester became chief WAAF and 22 November 1940 when Harris was promoted out of 5 Group to be C in C of Bomber Command. The Duchess visited Wittering on 24th April 1940 but that was a fighter station at the time.
The airfields in 5 Group at this time were Cottesmore, Hemswell, Scampton, and Waddington. Finningley was on care and Maintenance. So it was probably one of those four airfields
