WW2 Goose neck flare ?

Thanks for finding the original thread Carnaby.

Is this another one by a different manufacturer ? hinged top handle, hinged cover & a goose neck.

I'm pretty sure this ISN'T a gooseneck flare, but a simple filling can of some description.

Assuming the stamping is an AM stores reference, Section 21 is for Barrack Equipment
Subsection 21G/xxx covers "Hospital Equipment, excluding medical & surgical supplies" which doesn't sound right at all, more likely is 21C/xxx "Metalware".

Goosenecks with marked stores references are usually in Section 4 (Aerodrome Equipment), for example 4C/1273 is the reference for the regular round pattern type with the round lid.

No doubt in my mind that the stamping is a Stores Section and Reference. Presumably there is an RAF Air Publication 1086 in the archive(?) and yes, the 'G' could be a 'C' either way that would confirm that it is probably just a Can, Filling to use the RAF nomenclature:-P

Section 4C, I feel sure was Ground Electrical Equipment whereas Section 4G was Ground Equipment. Of course, this system of cataloguing was superseded by the so called NATO numbering so an AP 1086 pre-1970s would be required to confirm.

4C: Airfield Equipment
4G: Aircraft Servicing and Ground Handling Equipment
4GA: Winches, bomb and spares
4GB: Aircraft standard ground armament handling equipment

No copy of AP 1086 in the collection as yet I'm afraid, would be useful to have though.
