Glad to see some progress seems to be being made towards getting the Lanc back in the air. Things have just not been the same without her throughout the whole of last season & this year so far. Looks like she'll miss out on RIAT & Farnborough though - (from the BBMF Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BBMF.Official/) -
Lanc Update
All the fuel tanks are now fitted and the fitment issues have been resolved between the various groups involved. This is what has taken the time because all this work has to be signed off at quite a high level. Fuel as been put in the tanks and there are no leaks from them but we do have a couple from the fuel master cocks which have to be sorted. Next week the lower panels will be fitted followed by u/c retractions. We are still I believe 3 to 4 weeks away from getting her back in the air. Paul B
And to think that during the war most kinds of this work were carried-out overnight on open (cold) airfields in order to be ready for the next night's operation. Though a complete engine change was done within the hangar... so I'm told. No disrespect to those involved doing this very important work.
Airbourne again today & flying with the fighters apparently. Here's hoping they can get all the crew training & the all important display authorisation sorted ASAP.
We went to two local village fetes today, the first at Brill ( On the hill ) which included a classic car display ( My brother took his Mk 2 Ford Escort ) it was hissing it down just as we arrived for the next 20 minutes cleared up a bit later but then we went to Dinton fete mostly to see the Lancaster fly over the display field. Last year it didn't appear due to the weather, this year due to some other reason it again didn't appear Comment's to be heard were; Well it's had it's day... time it was put out to grass.. should be grounded before it crashes and kills people... etc..
