Does anyone know how Lockheeds numbering works? The Tristar is the L1011, but the Constellation was L1049!!

The Connie type number is 49, the L-049 being the first version, various models numbers were added ahed of 49 for different variants, the L-1049 being the Super Connie.
The Electra was the type 88, the first and only variant being the L-188.
The TriStar is more confusing as the company type number is 93 but it was called the L-1011 (ten-eleven), wouldn't surprise me if it was a fashion thing after the One-eleven.

Anyone catch the moves today?

The original Connie's Lockheed model number is L-049, subsequent variants being identified by a prefix number.
Thus, L-649 was the post-war improved passenger Connie, the Super Constellation series began at L-1049 finishing with the L-1649 Starliner.

Should also be noted that variants of the L-1011 TriStar are added after a dash after the model number (ie L-1011-500), which became the standard commercial way of doing things.

The RAF TriStars were all short 500s from BA and Pan Am before conversion to military role by Marshalls, their previous identities were,
BA G-BFCA, KC.1 ZD948
BA G-BFCB, K.1 ZD949
BA G-BFCC, KC.1 ZD950
BA G-BFCD, K.1 ZD951
BA G-BFCE, KC.1 ZD952
BA G-BFCF, KC.1 ZD953
PA N503PA, C.2A ZE706
PA N508PA, C.2ZE704
PA N509PA, C.2 ZE705

Here's a few shots taken by PRAESTA that I'm posting on his behalf. Taken aboard Fagin 11 on that final day of operation for the remaining TriStars.

Great shots Ian :)

Thanks Steve, the last one is a tad over-exposed but I was grinning like a fool and am not the best photographer!
