I'm thinking the amount of lakes etc usable for scooping in Canada would still make the prop types favourable, unless they look at the Beriev 200.

Might make good fire bombers?

Or going to a civilian AAR contractor like Omega?

Access to the Tristars at Brunty is off limits due to them being 'live' so here's the next best thing -

Funnily enough my only flight on a wide body airliner was on a L-1011 with Court Line! Only outbound though as we had to come back via a leased aircraft, a Boeing 720 if I recall. I assume the Tristar was out of action as I believe Court Line were still operational at that time. Still they were more comfortable than the usual Comets and BAC 111's that I usually travelled on.

The latest situation regarding the Tristars at Bruntingthorpe is that they are currently swapping engines around & the engines with the least hours will be given to the Tristars that are to be flown to the USA. So the outcome will be, one will remain at Bruntingthorpe for preservation, four will be flown to the USA & the other will be scrapped apparently.

I was informed today that apparently the sale of the remaining Tristars at Brunty to America may have fell through & they may not be moving there after all now.

Thanks Gerry,

I've asked a couple of people as I've been wondering myself & nobody seems to know what's going on with them at present since the deal to fly them off to America apparently fell through. I'm pretty sure that they are on Care & Maintenance in case they are to fly again.

As for photographing them on the open day in May, they are parked on a part of the airfield which is out of bounds to the public however they did lay on some open top busses last year for the photographers so you could still get over to photograph them and the other aircraft in the 'graveyard' part of the site but you where not allowed on foot. They also towed one of them into the the public area as well. Hopefully providing they are all still at Brunty in May they may do the same again.

I really do hope the Museum will still be keeping one of them as a 'runner'.
