Also, on Page 125 of the late Roger Freeman's book Mighty Eigth War Manua is a photograph of a trainee gunner manning a water cooled 50 cal machine gun with a caption indicating that, until late 1943, the 8th AF used a Ground to Air range near Mousehole, Cornwall.
So, it is possible that there was a 200x MTr there but I would expect it to be nearer the coast than your indication.Keep looking!

There is a picture of a gun pit at Mousehole in "Mighty Eighth War Manual".
It shows a .50 calibre water cooled gun. The pit looks to be keyhole shaped surrounded by sandbags. So I wonder was Mousehole for air gunners or ground defence gunners?

That could be the style but the sandbags hide the pit. The gun is much bigger being a .50 water cooled with the sights up very high and the gunner firing at arms length.
I have just flicked through Ivor Jones' "Airfields and Landing Grounds of Wales : North". In the Hells Mouth section there is a nice pic of the MTR there and he mentions that the Americans came to see it with a view to adopting it. Hence Snettisham?
What about Northern Ireland for more USAAF ones? I had a look in the Kilkeel area but there is a lack of postwar maps for that area in particular

Coincidentally I was looking at the site plan for that airfield yesterday - it's dated 1944. The MTR is not shown, no idea why. The bombing arrow is, however, and I managed to find it years ago - the 'point' had collapsed onto the beach due to erosion. I first discovered the MTR on viewing a Luftwaffe recce photo in the Llandwrog museum - the MTR stood out like a sore thumb. At that point I was aware only of the Barrow / Walney one.In the Hells Mouth section there is a nice pic of the MTR there
