Airfield Site Plans (RSP), Building Plans, Drawings and Maps

The site plan is generally refering to the airfield site, showing the layout and tech site. Dispersed sites are refering to the communal and living sites.

Which airfield interests you in particular?

- Harwell
- Keevil

I doubt you'll get plans for Brize Norton or Fairford as they are still used by the RAF but I could be wrong.

I don't have plans for the others I'm afraid but I could do with plans for Broadwell and Down Ampney.

You MIGHT find you can acquire the wartime plans for Brize and Fairford but as Richard mentions, nothing recent!

Has any thought been given to the possibility of making up building plans that RAF Hendon does not have? I have made requests to them at times that they were unable to fulfill. And some of the ones they do have are in rather poor condition such as the T2 hangars and the 228 Ops Block (at least the copies I received). While I am sure some buildings are gone forever, there are others that could be documented. It would be a very interesting project to which any number of people could contribute. Of course, that's easy for me to say since I'm on the other side of the ocean !!! I do have dimensions of the Norden Store, the 228 Ops Block, and the Pyro Store at Seething, so I could contribute a little. Just have to get them into a usable format. Comments, suggestions?

I use a CAD defunct program (DesignCAD Pro) for drawing my model plans so I can handle building plans but would need some data input.

I have got hold of an official plan for an airfield (specifically Tempsford) and have spent an afternoon going over it. I some questions that hopefully someone can answer...

On the Tempsford plan, there are three HF / DF (High Frequency / Direction Finding) Stations nearby. Why three? Is that typical? How did they function? Did all airfields have HF/DF Stations? Is there a master listing of these somewhere (WWII period only)?

There is small inset map on the right side of the general area of the airfield. Is there a key to the numbered areas on that map?

Buildings #121 & 193 are marked as Radar Workshops - what went on there? What is the significance of the 10 degree markings emanating from them?

The building that is known as "The Barn", building 142, is marked as the "B.I. Hangar". I know that it was the place where SOE operatives went before taking off, but was does "B. I." mean? Is it really "B1"?

Is there an online resource to each type of building as listed in the map's key?
