Mmm...I posted a reply yesterday re WadPol but it's vanished. Never mind; Ted, please explain the Gadaffi wagon? Is that a modern RAF term for the NAAFI wagon, rhyming slang?

Colonel Gadaffi - NAAFI. However, the days of the NAAFI wagon are long gone. Last one I saw was at St Athan in1980, my god 30 years ago!!!!! And Id been in just over two years, at Gutersloh the Malcolm club did a van.

And it appears the Police officers are Crown Servants and cant be made redundant. Wonder if that also applies to HM Forces???? If so I wonder if theyll have me back???

My mate retired from the fire service after 32 years about the same time as I left the RAF after 39 37 pensionable during my time as a WO I had between 135 & 165 direct subordinates in GEF. He was a Sub Officer with never more than 11 direct subordinates. His pension is far higher than mine and his gratuity was 35 % higher than mine.. Many say we do not contribute but it is a not true A member of the Armed Forces Pay Review body told me our Gross pay rates were abated by around 9% as a hidden contribution. This was one of the reasons why they did that big overhaul after you left as it meant those who spent their career in a higher pay band actually contributed more than some one of equal rank and service from a lower pay band. Young child run over this afternoon on the ped crossing by the domestic gate Must say the RAF P were on the scene in seconds with the duty doctor and crash amb close behind. its like a race track now,; believe she is not too badly hurt.

A bloke at work was a PC for 30 years, his pension is £1220 a month after tax. They (and I suspect the fire brigade was as well) were on final salary shemes and got two thirds of their final salary as pension. No wonder government finances were in a mess.

Oddest place for me and AOCs was Pitreavie Castle, why? Well the AOC was my boss! Pitreavie at the time was the home of RCC Edinburgh as well as AOSNI(Air Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland) and among his other duties was the Air Officer for SAR. In his officer was a great big board with mug shots of all the Station and Squadron commanders in Scotland and Northern Ireland. And also all SAR squadron commanders and all the personnel in the RCCs, there cant be too many SACs whove had their picture on a two stars wall can there!

When I was at Strike Cd in about 1975 the Cpls Club was in a lovely little old farmhouse, (I shall call it SFH for short), that belonged to Smith's Farm. MOD bought said farm & planted houses on it. (Kilnwood MQs). SFH sat behind the NAAFI in its own garden, c/w pond. We had a small hut behind Nimrod Block as a community centre, but, as it was used mostly by singlies, a new centre was ordered (CC mk2). It was a large pre-fab building, & was parked behind SFH & also in the garden. Clear?
The CC mk 2 had to be officially opened, & HRH Chookie Embra was to do the hons. I got joe-ed for JNCO i/c Route-Lining party between rear door of CC mk2 & the road. The idea was that HRH would drive around to the front of CC mk2, enter, & greet various pre-selected sycophants, then exit into the SFH garden where loads of kids from the nearby primary school would be waiting, - held back by yours truly & his stalwart band. HRH's escape from the hordes would be by progressing across the grass to a specially created gap in the hedge, whence he would remount his transport. The muddy gap where the hedge was removed was covered with a piece of green carpet.
Naturally, we had to practice our manouevres. Various officers came to lend weight to the discussions of how it was to be done on the day. Firstly, 2 lines of white lashing-tape were laid down across the garden to the gap to delineate go-no go zones for the kids/parents. An officer of about Gp Capt size decreed this was too obvious, & HRH wouldn't like it, so the 2 tapes were taken up & replaced with one down the middle of the approved trajectory. A more senior Zob showed up & said the tape was far too noticeable, & it needed toning-down & fixing to the deck as well. Tape duly nailed down with 6" nails & painted green.
Even more senior Zob (about 4-star by now) inspected & said he wanted the tape removed because HRH would wander wherever he wanted & wouldn't like the idea of being directed by tape. Tape removed, leaving holes in deck from nails, plus two green tramlines across the garden. So, we went from no tape to no tape over about 10 days. On the day, HRH did as predicted, & wandered about the garden, followed by a covey of anxious Air Officers. My valiant party of Crowd Controllers stood around & did nothing, & HRH probably went to his lunch wondering why anyone had bothered to paint the grass. I wouldn't have missed it for anything!
