I think you are correct Richard, I nearly put Barra earlier but i wasn't too sure of the history/layout of the airport.

Barra is a good guess but not correct. I believe they are GS sheds. All gone now.

Well done Dave. Hesketh park it is.
The runways were on the beach at low tide. There is a plan of it in my Pooley's from 1964.
The aircraft is most probably a Mosquito judging by the wing shape. Not sure if it was white or maybe yellow or even just very reflective.
Further south was Birkdale Sands but I believe that was above the hight tide level most of the time.
I assume Barra was/is also a beach based airfield.

Birkdale Sands was used for pleasure flying. Not sure if it still is. The aircraft used to position from the Hesketh hangars to this site for the day as it was far more convenient for holidaymakers. The tide rarely comes right up at Southport so plenty of hard sand. A great shot - don't think I've seen it before.
