WHAT AERODROME QUIZ - Vol 1

The geography of this forum has been stretched quite a bit with Lyneham and Upper Heyford appearing in the SW section!

Filton was the only sector station in the SW that I know of, but I didn't know there were any other landing grounds close to it..

Filton - don't think there has been anything that close to it at any time.

Wouldn't make much sense with the clues provided, but could it be Compton Bassett or Yatesbury with Lyneham in the background?

I'm guessing that its Boscombe Down in the background, which would make the grass airfield Lake Down - just guessing here!

The only other sector station remotely SW (though it isn't) is the grass runway Middle Wallop

Upavon? Netheravon?

Looking at the picture - if the view is NE - that puts the hard runway almost to the east or ENE of the grass field - about 12 or 15 fields away - so no more than approx 3 -4 miles max. Road is running (more or less ) E-W. There appears to be a large roundabout just to the North of the field.

I've been all over my concept of the Southwest and can't find anywhere that fits with all this plus a Sector station.....has the Southwest slipped a little?
