ALL DROMES HAD TWO NAMES

Does anyone have any gen on WW2 aerodrome codes? I notice that one of the members has the username MILKPAIL - Melbourne's call sign - (Halifaxes, No 4 Bomber Group) - so I'm hoping he does. Do have some gen & will happily post it if of any interest.

What you are reffering to is the fact that all Air Traffic Controls on British military airfields during the war were assigned a call sign, I do know that St Mawgan had two, one beginning with M and the other one was 'Heave Ho'.

During World War Two it was Known as Flying Control, witness the August 1944 RAF AP3024; 'Flying Control in the Royal Air Force'.
There was a series of publications C.D.0250-0272; 'Bomber Code', issued to all Flying Control Officers in every Watch Office, which listed them all. Would love to see them. Could be copies at Kew, I soppose.

You are right, East Kirkby was definitely SILKSHEEN.
