Nairn Linoleum Factory in Kirkcaldy Scotland

World War II
During World War II, part of the works was given over to the maunfacture of war munitions, including bombs, shells and torpedoes - presumably these used the large machinery used for handling the rolls of linoleum. The casings for some of the 12,000lb and 22,000lb "earthquake bombs" were finished there

Tallboys were filled at Swynnerton - each took two days.

Grand slams were cast in Sheffield. then 'transported a hundred miles for machining'. They were not filled at Swynnerton.

Upkeeps were manufactured at Vickers, Barrow, Elswick and Newcastle. They were filled at Chorley

Highballs were manufactured at Vickers, Crayford.

EDIT: Kircaldy to Sheffield is 275 miles !
Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite :twisted:

The history of ROF Chorley says there is little evidence but it does point to UPKEEP bombs being filled at Chorley but ROF Glascoed also claims to have filled them.

I can't see any mention of the other two types and the book is not indexed.
