There's aome people on here as nutty as some of us .

And if we checked your favourites would that link be listed in them??

Actually knowing the dates and types of simple things like this helps date structures both in old photographs and real life buildings.

I suspect the "iron" bit stuck due to the rusty finish that is so common.
Must find out when zinc plating started on these sheets and how long it lasts before rust sets in.
Didn't the French make vans out of the stuff?

Absolutely - from today! Though I note the website hasn't been updated for quite a while.

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite

Wasn't Harrington mainly a large city of tents early on?

Pat, an old post I know but I am interested in your 1940 Hornchurch plan. Any way you can share it and have you updated it recently? I have a 1942 Hornchurch plan that I intend to detail when I get the time. Not sure yet what software to use but I have a CAD plan showing all buildings with most Ministry drawing refs.

Hi Mike,

Sorry, have only just seen your post!
All I had to go on was a couple of photos of the airfield from the 'Battle of Britain Then and Now' book together with the descriptions from this and other texts. There is a book on it... Second to None: A Pictorial History of Hornchurch Aerodrome Through Two World Wars and Beyond, 1915-1962 which I don't have yet and may yield better information.

I modelled it a few years ago now but from what I remember it didn't change a great deal throughout the war years.

I'll see if I can dig out the scans again, or do some more (it's a very big book and a bit tricky!).
I'd be very interested to see your plan if too you could post it please.

Cheers,

Clive
