Presumably the large clear section is for ease of contruction? The panels are heavy on the joints but apart from that it looks good.

Although I have been looking forward to this kit, I see one error that makes no sense: They have routed the exhaust for the inboard engines completly outside of the nacelles. If they totally missed that, it makes me wonder about their research. I will continues to hope for the best as the Academy and Hasegawa kits are getting a bit long in the tooth...

I can only imagine they are trying to represent the late pattern inboard exhaust with the oversize expansion chamber.

Sorry Karl, have I missed something obvious? In all of the images I see on the net, the inboards are routed outside. Can you clarify (for a dope like me) exactly what you mean. Not forgetting that you have actually worked on the real thing!

Her ya go Denis. As you can see, the exhaust runs inside the nacelle itself albeit on the outboard side (sorry for the confusion!).

And here is the way it appears on the test shot. I may very well be wrong and it goes in the nacelle but is blocked by the main wheel. I will just have to wait until I get my hands on one! ; )

Was a bit confused there but I think I get it now. To sum up, it should be inside but on the the outside :)

A few pages from the B-17 manuals that will either enlighten or confuse... ;)

Exhaust parts diagram.
The larger type heat exchanger tube is No.28, inboard nacelle exchanger-to-supercharger pipework is to the upper right of the drawing:

Heatproofing shrouds.
The heat exchanger fits into the channel of part No.17, with the pipework heading for the supercharger passing in through the nacelle via part No.1. The late heat exchangers protrude from part No.17 for some distance:
