Well, I would tend to believe the MACR, so probably the one listed in "Bits & Pieces" should have been 131.

Freemans "Flying Fortress Story" agrees with you on 130.

Paul, are the MACR's available online someplace?

Thanks,

Karl

Bertie Lee, 4-237931 crashed at my local airfield, Waltham (Grimsby, Lincolnshire).

The photo above is a close up at the airfield.

A second photo shows a little more, aircraft codes (WF-D) and an identifiable farm in the background.
I also have a witness account stating that the aircraft was broken up next day by the Americans.

I would like further details of the markngs carried by this aircraft on the tail and wing(s) ?

Ian,

For an olive drab over grey 305BG B-17 at that date, in addition to the standard national insignia placement:
White triangle (6' long sides) with the letter G in black on both sides of the vertical stabiliser and on the upper starboard wing.
Serial number and code letter on both sides of the vertical stabiliser in yellow.
Squadron and aircraft code letters on either side of the waist section, usually in yellow but sometimes in grey.

I have the correct US paint codes and their model paint equivalents somewhere.

Paul, are the MACR's available online someplace?

Most MACRs are available via Footnote, occasionally for free too.

All the best,

The Duxford B-17G represents Mary Alice of the US 401st Bomb Group, is this the real history of this particular aircraft
