I still think the cost is being exaggerated for some reason. I can't see it costing a million pounds to paint an aircraft white then put transfer on it.

It rather depends on who you get to do it although I really have no idea how much a jet aircraft costs to paint. It should be cheaper than normal as there must be a lot of idle aviation paint sprayers out there.

It's the preparation that takes most of the time. I should not expect a repaint like this to be down to bare metal but removal of the original topcoat finishes down to primer, make good the primer where required. Nowadays they have to use environmentally friendly chemical strippers and disposal of the material. I'm surprised that Fields have a paint shop large enough to take this size aircraft or did they rent another? Then application of the paint finish needs an air- conditioned and force ventilated facility. Some finishes are applied by roller and others by spray. Then there is the cost of the decals (if that is what they are) made to order.
