Aerial Masts near Louth and Manby

Bloodhound 1949 "It does state in "Bomber County" that it was moved to Gayton Top,could this be another site?" Would this be likely a large circular array of masts?

I do not think so...The "Splasher" beacons were high output power medium frequency beacons used mainly by the Eighth Air Force to assemble their combat Groups and Divisions before heading to Europe....I have the coordinates of "Spasher 4" and they are between Withcall and Gayton-Le -Wold so I think perhaps Gayton Top may be erroneous...I have found a reference to to a site at Reston but it is not in Lincolnshire....thank goodness!

I believe HF DF antennas were vertical wires and their support masts were made of wood or similar non-conducting material to stop reflections of incoming signals from any steelwork upsetting the accuracy of the bearings. VHF DF antennas could be supported above the top of a tower, so reflections were perhaps not such an issue.

I have just seen an old map of Withcall/Gayton- Le- Wold and the area near " Splasher 4" is designated Donington Top , I suppose that is where the confusion arose between the Gayton-Le Wold site and Gayton Top which is to the East of Louth.

There is a Gayton Top at TF252864 south of the A157 west of the Bluestone Heath Road.

Regarding Skidbrooke site,I have just had a look on street view and there appears to be n Nissen hut with a brick frontage at,53.404538 N. and 0.149293 E..

Wondering what your source is for the Knickebein jammer? The info on Meacons that I've gathered is that they were all MF systems, not VHF. The Knickebein diathermy jammers were quickly replaced by redundant Standard Beam Approach TXs as they were the correct frequency around 32 MHz.
Alfred Price mentions that TRE experimented with an anti-Knickebein TX/RX combination at Worth Travers and Beacon hill Salisbury and it was found unnecessary to achieve sync as was the case with the Meacons. It was better to transmit unsynchronised dashes and let them drift in and out of phase with the Knickebein signals as the SBA TXs would do.

Re Skidbrooke, that lat/long converts to TF 42865 91927 which is HERE . I've had a wander around but can't find the Nissen.

I think the" M- Meacons were designed ,as you say,to interfere with the medium waveband broadcast stations on the continent...". The dawn of of the Electronic Age " note 217,by Frederic Nebeker quotes that "Meaconing"(Masking beacons) were used with good effect to counter the "Knickebein" VHF signals....With all good wishes.
