Wasn't there a F-4 celebration at Greenham Common IAT at one time? I seem to recall a line of f_4's of different nationalities but that may just have been a coincidence. There were a few at the Royal Review in 1977, maybe I'm getting confused!

I have yet to digitise my airshow pics, maybe a job to do next winter!

1983 was the IAT F-4 25th anniversary meet, included the Alcock & Brown Phantom XV424 and the anniversary marked A&AEE Phantom, XT597.

Edit, of course the Alcock & Brown Phantom was '79 IAT!

Nope, I think the only ones flying are the Turkish and Japanese ones. I don't know if Greece and Iran still have any?

You won't see any UK airworthy Phantoms in the UK, for several reasons including it being a complex type in CAA (with no UK DA support) eyes and the US DoD not even keen on them being preserved at all at one stage.
It's only through much persistence that that some Phantoms escaped the scrappers torch, unfortunately the J(UK)s didn't fare so well.

I seem to recall that when Ray Hanna secured XV474 (20 years ago!!) that there was initially an idea to fly it and to at least keep it in taxying condition.
There is a superb F-4D flown by the Collins Foundation in the States

Nice shots Rich, seems Bentwaters is a rich seam of 'toom preservation!

Thanks, at least I know which tray to look for - when I find the trays! Surprised it was 1983 as I must have taken the future Mrs PNK then!

There were always plenty of Phantoms lined up at the IATs Peter, so you could have remembered another show to that year?

FGR.2 XV500 'XV499 U', the St Athan gate guard, was one of the unlucky ones

Were any parts of XV499 saved?

I think the canopies, and maybe undercarriage were saved to go to another Phantom. I was offered the fin to take away there and then, but sadly was impossible for me to move at the time, believe the rest of the hulk went to an Ogmore scrap dealer.
