Photos from DS, what I reckon is USAF Quartermaster POL Q305 Depot at Altcar, photos 1943.

Not a trace remains on GE.

I used to live near there before retirement. In the 1980s I took photos of what was left of the ruins, the parade ground and a few buildings etc which I still have as slides. Your picture shows remarkable survivals of the parade ground even now with very little in the way of any development etc. It was fully active in the 50s when I was a teenager, girls from our area married some guys from there.

Hi, I'm trying to find out about a mural that was painted on the wall of the "recreation hall" at Station 571 Poynton, where the 2nd Air Depot Group was based. There is a picture of it on page 115 of The Mighty Eighth in Colour, and it is a map of the USA with cartoons added for each state. Can't find any info on it via Google, so I presume it no longer exists, but does anyone know any different?

While the larger stores buildings at the Poynton depot still exist, it would appear that most, if not all, of the support structures have been demolished and built over.
