Thanks for all of the links to Amazon, wikipedia and models etc. Brilliant technology, ahead of its time but to all intents and purposes ineffective as the weaon was launched in the general direction of the target and at night.

This gets more fascinating by the day. Always enjoyed ww2 history, especially war in the air, but the info provided by memers has made me dig even deeper.

Re N Ireland, I knew there had been some heavy bombing of Belfast but was totally unaware of attacks on airfields there. Were they deliberately targeted do you think or were they opportunistic targets?

Dave, There was one V1 that fell on Leicestershire which caused little damage and no loss of life. I can't remember off the top of my head whereabouts it fell though. I'm sure it was along the A47 near to Billesdon.

**EDIT** It was along the A47 at Glebe Farm near to the village of Skeffington. It fell on the 18th December 1944. Hope this helps.

On the subject of the raids on Belfast, they did actually drop some bombs on Dublin!

As for the blitz on London, the last major raid was on 10th may 41, it was full moon and also cup final day. Yes there was a wartime cup competition, and yes I know the result!

It is interesting to also note that as the war progressed the Luftwaffe took to sending bomb armed fighters - typically FW190's on low level raids against Southern English towns. There appeared to be no military value to this as during the bombing and strafing attacks it was mostly civilians that suffered. I have also read that the RAF had difficulty countering these raids as they were in and gone before defending fighters could react. Britain At War magazine has shown a fair bit of Luftwaffe gun camera shots from such raids recently.
