With the Irish Free State having been neutral the bombing of Dublin difficult to explain - There is mention of it in the Guinness Factory Museum which is a must-see for all visitors to the City!!
I've seen a conspiracy theory with claims the Brits bent the Luftwaffe navigation beam (to Belfast?) deliberately to try and get Eire involved.
OT but - Guinness Factory Museum ... a must-see !! - this is not a theory! It's excellent as you say, though they've made it more glitzy since my first visit of 15 years ago. Gone is the bit where they tell you about the tunnel under the road from one site to another. It carried finished ale in pipes and the workers had drilled a pluggable hole in it. Significant numbers of employees would spend their lunch hour in the tunnel! The museum obviously provides the best Guinness in the world. You get a free half and I've seen beer / Guinness haters love it. Get there early - big queues from before noon. I've been reliably informed that Kilmainham Gaol (museum) over the road is also superb - though you come out feeling not proud to be British.
