Dave, ask the locals about the RB-66 that flew into the ground near Skeffington in the 1950s. It was on a night radar approach to Bruntingthorpe and got too low because of a miss-set altimeter. In the 1970s, there were still chunks of it lying in the fields.

They were made by German V1 Flying bombs which were launched at Manchester on 24th December 1944 from Heinkel aircraft of Kampfgeschwader 53 but didn't make it.

The Bombing of both Newtownards and Sydenham Airfields (Now George Best Belfast City Airport) were both deliberate.
The runway at Sydenham received a considerable number of hits while Newtownards was also seriously damaged.

A number of civilians were also killed in a raid on Londonderry although the airfields there were not hit.

With the Irish Free State having been neutral the bombing of Dublin difficult to explain - There is mention of it in the Guinness Factory Museum which is a must-see for all visitors to the City!!
