Doesn't really add to the list as I don't know the location but yesterday teatime (5th Jan), I caught a few minutes of a re-run of an episode of "Pie in the Sky" on ITV3. There were a couple of exterior shots of a (derelict) tower plus some shot inside it. The runway wasn't in bad condition, as the baddie tried to fly out of the place in a Beech something-or-other.

Back in 99 a sci-fi series was made at Leuchars.

There is some rubbish on BBC1 as I type this - Churchill, the Hollywood Years. Crap comedy, but they have shown a wartime control tower and a Dragon Rapide with German markings. Anyone any ideas?

That was released back in 2005 when I was doing security at a cinema I think.
The posters told me everything I needed to know about "historical accuracy"...

Yes, I'm back(ish).

Anyone know where the Blue Max was filmed? Near the end at what is supposedly Berlin it's filmed at a UK airfield which has Hangars that look like rebuilt Belfasts (they have piched roofs).

Thanks,

Clive

My old fella reckons that he was an extra in the Blue Max, and claims that they filmed most of it in the Wicklow Mountains. The end of the film says filmed at Ardmore Studios, Bray & thanks the people of the Republic of Ireland. So I would say Baldonnel (The control Tower looks right!)

I'm surprised David Leans 1952 film 'The Sound Barrier' hasn't been mentioned.
This featured amazing (certainly at the time) early fifties flying and factory footage. De Havilands' Hatfield airfield and factory (inc beautiful Comet production line footage) is featured quite well. The main airfield is one of the Supemarine works, I'm guessing Chilbolton, but would love to be able to confirm for sure- does anyone here know?
Also features good air traffic and airfield buildings of the era.
