Surely someone here must know the drawing number of this Operations Block at Turnhouse? Any information would be tremendously helpful and much appreciated.

Canmore has this Operations Room identified as post-war, is there another ones?

That's the post-war ROC underground operations block. It's long since been demolished, but not wartime and not RAF as such, and certainly not the Sector Operations Room.

Thanks, but if the answer was on Canmore I wouldn't have posted here. As you know, not everything is on there and I checked but this sort of info, including AM drawing numbers, isn't generally included.

I'm primarily seeking confirmation of the drawing number,  which will give an approximate date of construction.

Thanks, but as you say this isn't answering the question. Can you hold off and see if someone out there is able to provide the information?

Ian you are correct the 2nd sector ops is 5000/37. The first I believe was built as a rear annexe to the SHQ but I don't know the drawing number nor its date but certainly not 1939. As you probably are well aware, like Northolt the sector ops was converted into the control tower post war.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Paul, Thanks for that. It's incredibly helpful, although as always with these things raises as many questions as it answers. I'll be at Kew in April and hope to get some more answers from the Station ORB, as currently I only have some third-party notes. I'm trying to contact one of the authors of The Greatest Squadron of Them All in the hope that he might have some answers, but sadly the email I have seems to be out-of-date. If I make progress on this, I'll post updated information here. Thanks again for confirmation of the drawing number which is greatly appreciated.

For the record, I've heard back from the authors of The Greatest Squadron of Them All and I can confirm that this contains a minor error. The reference to the Sector Ops Room being north of the road is incorrect and is believed to have been a reference to it being north of the airfield. Anyway, this confirms that there is no ops room north of the road and thereby removes one discrepancy.
