Here's my final set of photos from the 2017 display season & where better to round things off than at Old Warden. These where taken at the last few shows there in August, Sept & the final show of the year last weekend.

Just announced on BBC's "Look North" that Scampton will not host a display next year. Dunno if another venue will be chosen, looks doubtful though, as, apparently, the 2017 show ran at a loss. Higher than expected costs and poor ticket sales given. So much for a 100 year celebration.
They say they got 50,000 through the gates & those tickets weren't cheap (more expensive than RIAT) so it makes you wonder how many thousands more would need to attend to actually make it pay. The fact that they are limited to how many can attend must mean that it would be impossible for them to not run at a loss. I was told by one of the volunteers that they had three years to make it work.
The date of the show wasn't a good move either as it clashed with the huge airshow at Sanicole in Belgium which attracted lots of NATO hardware that weekend. Had it took place next year it would have clashed with two other large NATO shows in Europe.
According to to press release they are looking at a possible return in 2019. I'd be amazed if it comes back ever. I had a bad feeling about it returning when the show was still 'to be confirmed' when the majority of other shows released their confirmed dates for 2018 a month or two ago.
A real shame though. The airshow scene in general & Lincolnshire need another large airshow.
