The Canberra is a favourite of mine, a real 'Boys Book of Flight' aircraft, and as for the Lanc, I think the pilot was brave to take it up in those gusty conditions.
Just an update. I received a call from the BBMF today and they confident that they'll be flying over the Ipswich Road memorial on this Thursday (21.08.14) at 14.55 hours.
The memorial for anyone unaware is located at Space Makers Safestore 572 Ipswich Road Colchester CO4 9HB near the Ardleigh Crown interchange end of Ipswich Road.
In all probability it will be just passing over on their way to the Clacton air show.
Those who are attending will have to work out the best place to stand to take a photo, this may be on the opposite side of the road to the memorial. The aircraft coming over will be two fighters and the two Lancasters. The approach will be from the Ipswich direction.
There will probably be something printed about this in the Colchester Evening Gazette on Wednesday.
If coming by car please note that I have gained permission for vehicles to park at the nearby Stanfords Cattle Market premises on Wyncolls Road Colchester CO4 9HU. This will entail a 10 minute walk to the memorial site.
Parking here is at the owners risk obviously and there is no charge for this. If you park there and see any of the Stanfords staff a polite 'thank you' won't go amiss. Vehicles should be removed no later that 1700 hours - obviously we expect them to be removed long before that. They can park up about 100 cars but once that capacity is taken there won't be anywhere further to use.
* Please don't try and park at Space Makers as they are operating a normal working day and we don't wish to interfere with their customers.
I hope that helps anyone who wants to see the aircraft in this area and can't get to Clacton.
Ah the Canberra now there is an aeroplane, cartridge starts, a thing of beauty, and always made me jump no matter how many times I was on starter crew, happy days, jumpers for goalposts etc etc
Sywell's show never disappoints. Full credit to all the pilots & the organisers. For a show made up of about 80% vintage aircraft I think we did very well to see so much get airborne with those gusts across the runway. I just wished we didn't have to wait two years for the next one.
Many thanks to Denis, Wiganmick59 & the girls for the great company. Here's some of my pics -
