Fantastic work Pete, loving the olive drab Mk.9s.
This is in no way to denegrate your excellent work and skills, but the Range Rovers somehow don't look right, as if the mouldings are wrong?
It must cost a fair bit to represent a complete fire section!

Thanks James. The Mk 9s are old Capricorn Miniature kits, I bought a stash years ago.
I don't know if you have seen one of the BW kits, the overall dimensions look about right, my only gripe would be the shape of the bodywork above the windscreen. I think it is the way the kit goes together that causes problems. The cab roof has to be glued onto the cab itself (which has its own moulded roof). The result is a horrendous gap that needs to be filled. In my opinion this also makes the windscreen look too small. This was my first bit of modelling in 6 or 7 years and perhaps metal kits were not a good idea, the finished kit is tiny and was a real trial of both my eyesight and patience.
That said I'm just pleased that I have finished a couple and that they look something like a TACR2.

Now - time to build some aircraft again!

Thanks Ted, the Karriers were as cheap as dirt so I have bought a couple.

I can see you've done fantastic work putting them together, I struggle with metal models.
Having owned a few Range Rovers in my time (almost ended up with an engineless TACR2) I find that even die cast models seem to get something wrong about the overall look.
It could be a case that I just know them too well!

I seem to recall someone saying that if a model was 100% accurate it wouldn't look right. Probably some truth in that. The size of rivets and panel joints on most models would look appalling if scaled back up :)

I am a big fan of BW models; he is a one man band and very obliging re selling odd bits and suggestions for future releases, and very prompt re orders. The odd ones can be a real pig to get right, I am doing a Leyland Hippo fire tender at the moment and its really tested my patience whilst most of the kits go together very well. I think the wheels on the TACR 2are a fraction small, and it makes it look squatt ?? I have bought seperate 1Tonne wheels and put them on my TACR 1 it makes all the difference. One of my many projects at the moment is the ex JB now Airfix Bedford Tac refueller The Airfix club are doing a limited edition which contains 3 sets of decals, my project involves 5 different ones I built 3 in one afternoon: I said to my son this is not modelling it is kit building !! white metal or resin or conversions/scratch building in any medium is modelling ?? diecasts to me very nice I have a few but they are toys !!!!! Oxford etc try to do as many variations as possible from their tooling - this maximises prophet at the expense of accuracy. attached a couple of ex CMSC ambulances recently finished, I cannot believe some of the warts and the dodgy roundal on the series 3 they look OK to the eye ??
The 1 Tonne was one of a handful built as crash ambulances and based at RAF Germany airfields and at Pt Stanlty and Mt Pleasant airports. Anyway just my thoughts chaps, the main thing is to derive enjoyment from the hobbies anything else is a bonus.

More new kits November 2011

BW models have added more RAF vehicles to their range with:

Mark 11, 11a and 11a with new cab (each a separate kit)
Austin K6 with type 13 radar
Austin K6 with type 14 radar
Austin K6 Balloon winch
Supacat
Mammoth Major with gas cylinders
Eagle bomb trailer
AEC Militant 2500gallon Fuel Tanker
RAF Mountain Rescue Hard top to fit Bedford RL, MK and Leyland/Daf
Coyote,
Jackal armoured,
Jackal uparmoured
Austin K6 Mobile Crane (not used by RAF but was used by RN)

The photos show the two radar vehicles in the deployed condition ie cab tops removed and a protective canvas cover in place. I have not yet seen these kits so I don’t know if Barry followed the lead from the old Trux models and has included optional cabs. The radars are the cheese segment design.

The Modelenium website carries details of some forthcoming Oxford Diecasts in 1/76 scale including a Bedford OWB bus, Pioneer Artillery Tractor and Pioneer Recovery Tractor, the latter in BOAC and RAF colour scheme with a release date quoted as May 2012 but in my opinion this date may well slip judging by the Bedford MW.

Gents, I seek your assistance. Having hunted high and low via the internet I am unable to locate RAF Blue/Grey gloss paint to BS33. All that seems to be available is 5 litre containers, a wee bit OTT for my needs. Is there anyone out there with a supplier please?

XTRACOLOR do it Hannants website or wonderland models of edinburgh website. It is Xtracolor X 13- I have used it a lot; only word of caution I have found the shade slightly varies between batches. Secondly most pictures on the IWM and other websites gives the impression of a colour that is lighter and bluer than reality. Remember post WW2 items classed as ground support equipment were in a totally different color- Traffic Blue BSC 169. - long defunct-
Whilst colour varies greatly between PCs monitors etc, the tractor in the attached is in my opinion a v good example, my Sussex balloon duo are finished by brush using Xtracolor X 13

Ted, many thanks for your assistance. I have recurring nightmares revolving around the change from Traffic Blue to Golden Yellow. Why did we have to complete the task within a month? Maybe it kept some soul at headquarters in employment ensuring we had repainted everything.

I do not know if it is my memory playing tricks, however, I could have sworn Humbrol used to do the colour I am hunting for.
