Morning indeed and welcome to the ARG forum Baz

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Welcome Baz. There is plenty of information on military and WW2 history available by browsing the forum. Although the primary interest is airfields of WW2 there is a myriad of associated topics. The INDEX will lead you where you want to go.

To what airfields in Suffolk are you associated?

Good morning.

My name is Baz and I have an interest in military and WW2 military history in particular.
My father was RAF based at Coltishall and Horsham St.Faiths just after the war.

Im currently associated with a couple of former airfields in Suffolk and was introduced to this forum by the RAF Museum.

Welcome Baz.

Hello, first post here altough I joined the forum some years ago.

I live close to Venice, Italy and I have interest in WW2 aviation and airfield develpoment in particular.
I fly IL-2 1946 simulator and hope to build some maps with historically-accurate airfields for it.

Kind regards

Nicola

Hi Baz, Welcome to the forum. Leiston is also one of my favorites, been there quite a few times. Used to belong to their group with interesting newsletters. Also got a very good book , in-fact a Brilliant book called ; The 357th Over Europe. by Merle Olmsted. Maybe you have this too ? An interesting airfield indeed.

Yes sure is. Im a fan of P51s and the 357th and was thrilled to get the chance to meet one of the pilots that flew from there. Have you seen the little museum hut on the caravan park ?

Gus died some years ago and used to work on the base.
There is a little museum in Gus’ hut inside Cakes and Ale. Friends of Leiston Airfield handle the events such as the ones you are describing. They have a website.
