Afternoon all. I’m Will and I’m interested in early aviation in the UK.
Currently my interest has got me looking at the development of airfields from literal fields in the 1910s through to the first hard surface runways in the 1930s. With a view towards a potential flight sim scenery package.
Hi from Rick in San Francisco, originally from Manchester in the UK and still missing proper beer, football and weather.
Despite the RAF turning me down to be a jet pilot (something about the glasses I suspect , I've kept a lifelong interest in all things aviation and cartography.
Working on a website of WW2 military airfields to de-rust my tech skills. Would very much appreciate any pointers at high quality airfield data sets including lat/long. Cheers, Rick
I was going to cut and paste a few useful links - then I remembered that I deleted my airfield bookmark folder in disgust after finding that over 80% of the links were dead. I sort of regret it now. However a recollection of a website name led me to this link which may be of some use.
Hi folks,
Decided to finally join the forum after years of casual visits!
Currently a civil servant but formerly a member of HM Forces, mostly Army but with a smigin of RAF service for added variety.
Always had an interest in aviation, principally WW2 and the Cold War, especially relating to Northern Ireland...my wee neck.of the woods!
Looking forward to picking a few knowledgeable brains on the forum if n the months to come...
Cheers,
Rob
