Drat! So my supposition that it was to do with rodent faeces was incorret.

Another one:

A prominent position in the 11 Group Ops Room was the GOC ADF (TA).

That's General Officer Commanding ADF (Territorial Army, probably)

But the 'ADF' got me (and others) beat. Not in Dobinson's AA Command and I suspect not in the excellent James's Growth of Fighter Command, 1936-1940.

Army / Artillery / Defence Force spring to mind but I need to be certain.

Never happened unfortunately. In the next issue of AR there is an acronym that took a while to solve It was American of course.

There's one just appeared on the Bentwaters page 'DGa RAF Bentwaters' I guess we must make it a 'sackable offence' to quote a weird acronym and not supply its meaning as it stops me sleeping at night worrying what it might mean.

I found the BBC competing with the US military on acronyms. It was reputed that there was a guy just coming up to retirement by the name of MacDonald, whose job title was Engineering Induction and Engineering Information Officer. Someone suggested his first names were Oliver Leonard Douglas, but that's just ridiculous .
