It as an excellent day really and not what i had expected. I had just spent a week in south london helping my son decorate his house, and planned to meander my way back ( since I was on my own ) and visit Salisbury Hall and the Mosquitos ( see also the Horsa thread) and then Shuttleworth for lunch etc.
When I got to Old Warden and checked my phone I started seeing chat about the vulcan and waddington, and checking my satnav, i could see it was achievable to get there in time, so off I went. There seemed to be an excess of police when I arrived, probably remembering previous occasions of chaos but they could see it was relatively low key
Of course since the practice was using the standard airshow crowd and display lines parallel to the runway we had some superb views at the WAVE as it went overhead. It was an extended display and I managed to get some video too. Quite outstanding !

"After its Farnborough appearance, the future name of the Avro 698 was a subject of speculation; Avro had strongly recommended the name Ottawa, in honour of the company's connection with Avro Canada. Weekly magazine Flight suggested Albion after rejecting Avenger, Apollo and Assegai. The Chief of the Air Staff preferred a V-class of bombers, the Air Council announced the following month that the 698 would be called Vulcan after the Roman god of fire and destruction"
I seriously doubt, having previously named the Valiant and Victor, that any name not beginning with V would have been acceptable

Well the name Ottawa would have followed on from Wellington and Canberra in being named after capital cities in the Empire, and who knows maybe they were looking for sales in Canada as well?
I did read many years ago in Flypast that the RAF had already decided the names of the strategic jet bombers as being Valiant Vulcan and Victor. And lets face it the term Vforce does sound punchy!
This is probably not not going to surprise you Kevin but yes I was .
I was there with fellow forum member Richard Drew at the time and we only stayed for one taxi run as I was showing Richard around Stratford & Long Marston airfields later that day.
