Presently both Leeds-Bradford and Teesside Airports are closed due to snow . LBA actually have two aircraft in the hold hoping to get in...hope Santa makes it in OK !
The LBA aircraft went to Speke/Liverpool/John Lennon whatever . Also reported closed is Campbeltown Airport (Machrihanish) with all Loganair flights cancelled .
Surprisingly Teesside was open today as was Newcastle earlier which took some diversions from LHR . Some long bus transfer journey's there ! BBC news were reporting lots of closures including Manchester , Gatwick and Plymouth . Newcastle closed tonight and one flight diverted to Edinburgh and another from Belfast turned around and went home !
thats quite common, dry ski slopes tend to be on a lot steeper slopes than normal ski runs to overcome friction, so when they are snow covered they skiers go rather a lot faster than the intended max velocity, and as the snow freezes in the matting somewhat dangerous. so the elf'n'safety folks shut them....
I'm surprised no one has resurrected this thread so I thought I would given the present weather conditions ! Locally Teesside Airport has been closed all day and most of yesterday and I know Newcastle has been badly affected by the snow and a local BBC television news report featured a fleet of snowploughs and gritters out clearing their runway .
Nationally Gatwick is closed and featured on the BBC national news with one passenger who was interviwed being stranded there 27 hours and had been offered blankets but no food or accommodation !
