I can't believe that it's almost two years since we had a post on this thread , however it's that time of year again ! A report on
BBC Radio 5 Live earlier this morning said that Stansted was closed due to snow and now Newcastle is too and Teesside has just claimed their Dublin flight as a diversion !

Perhaps we should have a 'Closed due to flooding' thread too ! The smaller strips up here appear to have remained open throughout the recent deluges and the recent frosts will help the runways to take traffic but once it thaws and starts to rut they will need time to recover .

Cranfield's shut due to snow, but for the first time in recent history is being ploughed and gritted. It's looks like the airfield have made an investment over the summer!.

They closed the airport here (Arlanda) this morning which is pretty unusual. We had a category 2 snow warning last night which came true. I couldn't see more than 2m out of the window this morning, 80% of people worked from home and by lunchtime it had dumped 120cm of snow outside :/

Yeah they'd need to push a Viggen in reheat backwards down the runway I reckon! :D

Lands End has been closed for several days due to rain, but re-opening tomorrow. The Scilly Isle scheduled flights have been operating out of Newquay/St Mawgan and of course there is no helicopter service now.

This snow business always reminds me of the wonderful tv ad that Volkswagen did in the early seventies. It's snowing heavily, man comes out of house and gets into a VW Beetle. He drives along several miles of deeply snow covered roads and eventually arrives at what looks like a big warehouse. He parks his Beetle and goes into the warehouse thru a wee access door. The big warehouse doors are opened to reveal a HUGE snowplough. Up comes the caption ..' How else does the man who drives the snowplough get to the snowplough...? ' Classic - !
