Indeed, I think that was the same mountain that claimed two Fairey Gannets, and crews, while formation night flying.
Now that you mention it, the cog wheels are grinding around to a vague memory.
This is probably the accident you were refering to.
Two Gannets, XA414/393 and XG798/397 took off from Ballykelly on the morning of the 27th November 1962. Shortly afterwards, both crashed into high ground on the Donegal Hills near Greencastle to the north of the base, killing all on board.
Actually it's about 15nm NW of Ballykelly (in my home county). The other mountain 4nm NE is Binevenagh 1250ft or as it became known to the pilots Ben Twitch, I wonder why. Oddly there are no reports of any aircraft coming to grief there, probably because it was ingrained into there minds.

I called there four years ago to find a very large field and only a few foundations to tell that
there were some kind of structures there in the past. As recently as last year it was
suggested that this site should be considered as a possible location for a new Galway Airport,
because the present airport at Carnmore (1nm NW of Oranmore) is fast outgrowing it's location with no more room for expansion.
