Mildenhall is correct. It is the chute from an SR71 as opposed to some squashed runway kill!

You'er tooooo damned good Peter. Castle Archdale it is, on Lower Lough Erne Co Fermanagh.
Over to you now.
It was made viable, along with several other marine and land bases on and around the lough
by the availability of the so called "Donegal Corridor" a narrow section of land between the
western area of Co Fermanagh (in Northern Ireland) and Donegal Bay, straight out over the Atlantic via Bundoran in the Irish Free State (pre 1948 name). It's just 3nm distant's as
against about 100nm one way around Malin Head. This agreement between the Irish and
British goverments was initally for the quick rescue of airmen downed in the ocean (for the benifit of the Axis forces), but was in reality used by all and sundry as a short cut.
